    *IKG, launched on 5th February, 2002

    *Designed to ensure access to assured irrigation by farmers in   the ‘rain-shadow’ regions

    *Tapping ground water potential and riparian run-offs through sustainable tube-wells and lift irrigation

    *Farmers free to engage drilling contractor of choice but at   drilling rates approved by district administration

    *Minimum 300m. distance must be maintained between two   tube-wells to ensure sustainable exploitation of          ground water

    *Assistance (subsidy) ranges from Rs.10000 to 18000 for     drilling and Rs.10000 to 25000 for installation and        energizing   pump sets

    *Failed tube wells also compensated

    *Subsidy reimbursement for Farmers from among S.C/S.T.   Sections up to max. Rs.45000

Progress -  Physical and Financial

    *Initial  outlay during 2001-02, Rs.5 crores

    *2266 farmers benefited so far, another 894   being assisted

    *Coverage in 21 Blocks of 5 districts

    *Outlay for current year is Rs.12.30 crores

    *State Share Rs. 3.45 crores

    *Target 2000 farmers to benefit during 2002-2003

    *River bank electrification taken up all along   major rivers and perennial streams  for lift   irrigation

    *No waiting period for energizing pumps; energy   on demand for beneficiaries
